Why Poly Tanks Are Good For The Environment

Polyethylene tanks are sometimes criticized for having a negative impact on the environment. Here at The Tank Factory we sell a huge range of poly tanks. There are 5 key reasons why the products we sell are actually good for the environment.

But first it is important to note that while all tanks are good for the environment, poly tanks are by far the most affordable option. On average, poly tanks are 25-30% cheaper than tanks made from other materials. Since they are so affordable, they are more popular, and the environmental benefits discussed below are enjoyed by more households. If a tank is unaffordable, any potential environmental benefits of owning a water tank are wasted.

So now to the key reasons:
1. Poly tanks are recyclable. Here at The Tank Factory we use recycled polyethylene to make our raised garden bed products. Our raised garden bed is designed to give people a durable raised garden bed made from 100% recycled polyethylene. There are also many examples of damaged poly tanks being recycled and used for animal shelters and storage sheds.Duraplas animal shelter

2. Poly tanks from The Tank Factory have a 20 year warranty. That is how confident we are that they will last for years and years. In fact, our new generation poly tank technology has proven to last longer than 30 years. Clearly, the longer the product lasts, the better it will be for the environment.

3. Affordable tanks take the pressure off local councils to have larger water facilities. Most water authorities in Australia have recognized this and provide some form of rebate for the purchasing of a rainwater tank. This stops water authorities having to build larger dams or desalination plants. The effect is twofold. Firstly, if everyone has a water tank in their yard it reduces the demand on a city’s water supply. There will be fewer dams, fewer desalination plants – an obvious benefit for our environment. Secondly, the more water tanks a city has, the greater the overall water supply. Rous Water estimates that the installation of a water tank reduces the demand on the mains water supply by 50,000 litres a year. And that is just for one household! This has an added economic benefit, as the cost of mains water is on average between $2.00 – $3.00 per 1000 litres. This could save a household $100.00 per annum for an average water user, or $150.00 for households with large water demands.

4. Water tanks reduce flash flooding from storm water runoff by retaining the water close to the source, and this in turn reduces flood peaks. This factor alone presents a huge environmental benefit, not to mention the economic benefit from less damage in a severe weather event.

5. Water tanks reduce the energy needed to treat and pump the water to your household. A lot of energy is used in treating and pumping water from large water storage facilities to individual properties. This is greatly reduced by households capturing and storing the water on their properties.

So remember, all tanks are good for the environment, but poly tanks are by far the most affordable option. Due to their enormous popularity, the environmental benefits of water tanks are amplified. All households have the opportunity to contribute to this positive trend. All households have the opportunity to make a difference.
